Catholic Date Nights for Married Couples are a Big Hit

Do you like the idea of a Catholic date night for married couples? You are not alone.

Married Couples Night Out events are being organized around the Diocese by the Evangelization and Formation office, and they are proving to be very popular.

It’s part of a new lineup of diocesan events for Catholics of various ages and situations in life. The date nights are designed so people can gather with others who want to live their faith while also having a little fun.

“We heard during the Synod of Bishops that people craved marriage enrichment opportunities, as well as opportunities to socialize and share faith with other Catholics outside of a church setting,” said Maggie Riggins, Executive Director of Evangelization and Formation.

The first Married Couples event in Schuylkill County was held at a local restaurant and it sold out quickly, attracting couples who had been married between nine months and 63 years.

The next Married Couples Night Out will be held at 6:30 Aug. 10 at La Dolce Casa/DiMaggio’s in Tamaqua. It also is sold out.

There is strong interest in a Catholic date night for married couples in other regions of the five-county Diocese too, and those nights are being planned now.

"These are events that are full of socializing and fellowship, but we also pray together and share our faith at the same time,” said Riggins. “It’s a light approach that people enjoy, while still being centered in Christ.”

In addition, other upcoming events include:

  • Springs of Hope Retreat, for couples experiencing a season of infertility.
  • Theology on Tap nights for young adults.
  • Natural Family Planning and Fertility Awareness events.
  • Forever in our Hearts Mass for couples who have lost a child to abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, or early childhood death.
  • St. Monica Ministry for people who have family members who have left the Catholic faith.
