'Eucharistic Consistency' an Important Topic When Bishops Meet

(6/13/21) As the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is preparing to meet this week, Michael Warsaw, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of EWTN Global Catholic Network and publisher of the National Catholic Register, has written an opinion column on Eucharistic Consistency.

“Eucharistic consistency, or coherence, means that every time we receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion we acknowledge his Real Presence with our Amen. And we recognize our own disposition, asking ourselves if we are indeed in communion with the Church in faith and morals,” Warsaw writes.

“A formal statement about the Eucharist in the life of the Church is not primarily about politicians and Holy Communion, but about Eucharistic consistency for all of us who profess the Catholic faith,” he writes.

Warsaw notes that American bishops are considering a “National Eucharistic Revival” in the United States. Closer to home, the Diocese of Allentown is in the middle of the Year of the Real Presence, a year dedicated to celebrating the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist – body, blood, soul, and divinity.
