Catholic Author Kevin Wells: 'We Need More Beloved John in Our Society'

“Everybody says ‘I love Jesus’, but can you pick up your cross and follow him?” asked Kevin Wells, author of the book The Priests We Need to Save the Church, during a recent morning of reflection sponsored by the diocesan Commission for Men.

During his message, Wells referred to the ancient city of Ephesus as a place of harmony and order. “Does your home look like Ephesus? Is there order, is there virtue, is there sacrifice? Good intentionally Catholic men must bring Ephesus into their family lives and restore virtues and peace and show the world how ‘Pick up your cross and follow Him’ looks. We need the miracle of Ephesus in Allentown,” Wells said.

Bishop Alfred Schlert praised Wells’ recent book. “A priest is called to be a good father figure. Kevin’s writing is a necessary reading for all of us as it brings us closer to the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, to the Real Presence of Jesus in the Sacrament,” he said.

Wells encouraged priests to take the narrow path of self-denial once tread by St. John Vianney. “I wrote the book with one thought in mind: The core of a holy priestly vocation is an identification with the Crucified Christ. To all seminarians, please pray the Rosary consistently, and to all men, we too must be the Chalice of that Precious Blood that flows into our wives and kids, our neighbors. We must suffer to get our families to heaven,” he added.

The Commission for Men is organizing the annual Men’s Conference at DeSales University on Saturday, November 20th, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The lineup for this year includes The Catholic Man Show, Jesse Romero and David Abel. A Spanish-language conference will be offered simultaneously on the same day. Register at menaliveinchrist.org.
