Here is this week's installment of "Five Faith Friday" which contains five, faith-based things I found interesting and am sharing on Friday.
What Picture Inspired Me --
This picture of a little boy kneeling for his first communion. He is confined to a wheelchair but insisted that for his first communion, he wanted to kneel to receive Jesus. There is no question that this boy knows that Jesus is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.
What Statement I Saw --
This one from San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone. House Speaker Pelosi, a self proclaimed devout Catholic, invoked her Catholic faith while justifying the push to force taxpayers to fund abortions. The first part of her Bishop's response summarizes it well: "Let me repeat: no one can claim to be a devout Catholic and condone the killing of innocent human life, let alone have the government pay for it." Make sure you reach out to your representatives about all of these abortion bills.
What Made Me Do Some Self Reflection --
This video about attire at Mass and why it matters. It's 18 minutes long and goes into how our clothes are an outward reflection of our inner selves, how society views dress/attire, and why we need to give God our absolute best in our attire at Mass. You'll also note that our attire at Mass is not supposed to direct any attention to ourselves. If you prefer to read, check out The Naked Truth About Dressing for Mass. It doesn't matter if you are at your home parish or on vacation - you are before God. Dress like it.
What I'm Checking Out --
Gregorian chant. "You may be so familiar with Gregorian chant that you take it for granted, or you may think of it as some obscure and ancient form of singing that you heard once in a movie. But Gregorian chant has a rich history and great musical merit. How was it developed? Why is it considered the “most sacred and authentic” form of liturgical music? And why do some consider it the “foundation for Western music”?" Check out this link to learn more.
Which Bible Verses I'm Focused On --
Deuteronomy 6:4-7, Philippians 2:10-11, and 1 Peter 5:8-9. All three of these are printed out and on my desk for quick reads and great reminders. Do you have any that have stuck out to you lately? Let me know: DavidRYingling@gmail.com.
