“An Evening with Matt Maher” is set to hit the Lehigh Valley on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame High School, Easton. All proceeds of the concert with nine-time Grammy nominee and three-time GMA Dove Award winner Matt Maher go to support the newly formed pro-life nonprofit and ob-gyn care center called United Hearts Life Mission (UHLM).
When asked why they chose to do a concert instead of another means of fundraising, Mary Ann Morales explained they desired to have an “evening of praise and worship instead of a gala benefit.” They believe Maher and his music can unite people of all backgrounds in adoration of Our Lord.
Maher is a Catholic musician who has performed at the World Meeting of Families and for multiple popes, including St. John Paul II and Pope Francis at World Youth Days, and Pope Benedict XVI at New York’s Rally for Youth.
Most recently, Maher led nearly 60,000 attendees in Eucharistic Adoration and worship on July 20 at the National Eucharistic Congress. His music highlights the universality of Christ and his Church worldwide.
On the evening of the concert, UHLM seeks to recognize that families have lost little ones too soon by preparing a “Garden of Light” in the Grotto of Our Lady of Wisdom and Family outside Notre Dame High School. Bishop Alfred Schlert will celebrate a Mass for all those enrolled in the Garden of Light.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the UHLM and allow it to provide “life-affirming ob-gyn care to women in the Lehigh Valley.”
The mission statement of UHLM is to “provide excellent ob-gyn healthcare that respects the dignity and uniqueness of each woman and her unborn child by honoring all life from conception to natural death and affirming a woman’s unique role in every sphere of society.”
The UHLM has contracted Dr. Maryanne Freeman Brndjar, who brings 26 years of experience to the practice. Under the nonprofit umbrella, Dr. Freeman Brndjar will continue to provide personalized care to her private patients.
“By coming under this umbrella [of care], we can serve more women with greater self-dignity and self-respect. It will have a trickle-down effect,” explained Morales. “This is a way that we can build a lasting impact on the culture in the Lehigh Valley.”
The nonprofit has a particular focus on serving babies in danger of termination and unborn babies with a life-threatening prenatal diagnosis. Examples of this include providing the abortion pill reversal and perinatal hospice care.
UHLM also serves as a field hospital for newly pregnant mothers and the unborn.
The practice does something unique: “Many mainstream obs will not see a woman until 12 weeks of gestation. UHLM closely monitors newly pregnant patients and can intervene to try to prevent early miscarriage.”
UHLM is part of an organic network of pro-life advocates, including sidewalk counselors, Catholic Charities, and Our Lady’s Helpers, to provide support for women considering abortion.
“I hope the community will come together for the concert,” said Morales. “I believe we are the best-kept secret in the Lehigh Valley.”
