Guidelines and applications for the Diocese of Allentown’s Poverty Relief Fund Grants are now available at www.allentowndiocese.org/poverty-relief.
Diocesan Poverty Relief grants, which are funded by parishioners who contribute to a special annual second collection during the weekend before Thanksgiving, support a wide range of local projects and services that alleviate and address poverty throughout the Diocese of Allentown.
During this past year, Poverty Relief grants provided more than $100,000 for hospice and medical care, food for the hungry, clothing, shelter, counseling, and aid for disadvantaged families, and much more throughout Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties.
This year’s Poverty Relief Fund collection will take place during the weekend of Nov. 23-24. Contributions to the Poverty Relief Fund can also be made online at www.allentowndiocese.org/poverty-relief.
“The annual Poverty Relief collection is an important part of our Diocesan commitment to serve children, families, and adults of all faiths throughout our community,” said Bishop Alfred Schlert. “We are truly blessed by the many generous and faithful parishioners in the Diocese of Allentown who answer Christ's call to care for the most vulnerable among us.”
Projects and organizations, including St. Vincent de Paul Societies, which involve active participation from Diocesan parishes, schools, and other ministries, are strongly encouraged to apply. Application deadline is Friday, December 13.
