Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On this day of gratitude, I thank Almighty God for you, the people of the Diocese of Allentown. Please know of my prayers for you and your families today, and I extend to you my warmest well-wishes for a happy Thanksgiving. I am praying in a special way today for our military and first-responders. Thank you for your service. I am praying also for the sick, and anyone spending the holiday away from their loved ones. Today is a difficult day to feel alone; however, our God is close to us always.
In whatever way you may be celebrating the holiday, I invite you to take some time to pray in gratitude to our Heavenly Father. Please join me in praying along with one of the options for today’s first reading at Mass, from the book of Sirach:
“And now, bless the God of all,
who has done wondrous things on earth;
Who fosters people’s growth from their mother’s womb,
and fashions them according to his will!
May he grant you joy of heart
and may peace abide among you;
May his goodness toward us endure in Israel
to deliver us in our days.” (Sir 50:22-24).
Amen.
