Marian Eucharistic Concert, Part of Year of Real Presence Celebration, Set for May 15 at Cathedral

Four choirs, along with many accompanying instruments such as flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and keyboards, will be featured at the Marian Eucharistic Concert scheduled for 3 p.m. May 15 at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena.

The concert is a major event in the Year of the Real Presence celebration that also marks the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Allentown.

The concert will open with the hymn Mary the Dawn, a beautiful meditation on the fact that Mary’s life is caught up in -- and oriented toward -- Jesus Christ.

The four choirs that will perform, all under the direction of Bev McDevitt, are:

  • The Cathedral Choir, which is the Cathedral Parish’s weekly church choir.
  • The Diocesan Choir, which has members from all around the Diocese and performs at all diocesan events.
  • The Angelorum, a women’s choir comprised of members of the Cathedral Choir and the Diocesan Choir.
  • Living Word, a contemporary choir at the Cathedral parish that performs more-recent sacred music.

The 75-minute concert also will feature a Cello performance by Richard Maurer, a Julliard-trained cellist and member of the Cathedral parish. Maurer will play a Eucharistic medley arranged by McDevitt.

The concert is free, and there will be a free-will offering.

The event will be livestreamed here on AD Today and on the diocesan YouTube channel and Facebook page.
