Regional Healing Mass, to be Celebrated by Bishop Schlert, Will be Broadcast on EWTN

A Mass for the Healing of Body and Soul, sponsored by the Order of Malta American Association and celebrated by Bishop Alfred Schlert, will be held April 23 in Philadelphia.

The Mass, at the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia, will be broadcast on EWTN.

The faithful throughout the Diocese of Allentown are invited to attend. The Order also has extended invitations to people in the dioceses of Paterson, Camden, Trenton, Metuchen, Scranton, Harrisburg, and Wilmington, and in the archdioceses of Philadelphia and Newark.

Among the events that will precede the 4 p.m. Mass are a luncheon, shrine tours, spiritual exercises led by Bishop Schlert and others, Adoration, Confessions, and the praying of the Rosary.

Oils from shrines will be used for a special anointing following the Mass. Everyone in attendance will take home a bottle of St. Rita Oil and Lourdes Water.

The Order of Malta is a lay religious order of the Catholic Church founded in 1113. The Order is active in 120 countries caring for people in need through its medical, social, and humanitarian works.

The selected location for the event, the National Shrine of St. Rita of Cascia, reflects in part the fact that St. Rita has been known over the years as the Patroness of Impossible Causes.

In the Diocese of Allentown, the Order of Malta American Association has 11 members, including Bishop Schlert, and is seeking to expand its membership.

Anyone may attend the Mass. To attend the day-long activities as well, which begin at 11 a.m. and include lunch, please register and remit a $50 fee by clicking here.
