Springs in Desert Event Offers Hope and Support

Couples carrying the cross of infertility are invited to an event October 23, sponsored by the Diocese of Allentown and Springs in the Desert, a Catholic infertility ministry.

The free event, at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, will include a Mass celebrated by Bishop Alfred Schlert.

Springs in the Desert is recognized as a trusted resource for couples experiencing infertility by offering a place of respite and solidarity where they can know God’s love for them and discover His unique call to fruitfulness. Co-founder of the ministry, Ann M. Koshute, said, “It can be very difficult for couples – both men and women – to be Catholic, to have difficulty conceiving, and be alone in the pew without children. It can come with many feelings of isolation, and we want couples to know they are not alone on this journey. There is support.”

Firmly rooted in the anthropology, ethics and spirituality of the Catholic Church, Springs in the Desert offers support to the married couple while keeping a focus on Christ and His plan. Regional events help build community among women, men, and couples wherever they are on the path of infertility and raiseawareness about the experience and unique grief of infertility to pastors, diocesan offices, and healthcare professionals.

Following Mass with Bishop Schlert at 11:30 a.m., participants will come together to share a light lunch, hear inspiring, short reflections from several speakers, and have opportunities to build community with those experiencing a similar season of life. The event concludes at 3:00 p.m.

Wherever you are on the path of infertility, all are welcome to join us for a time of prayer, reflection, and community. “Come with your spouse or on your own to pray, be uplifted, and experience friendship with others on this same path,” said Koshute. This event is also open to friends and family who are looking to support their loved ones.
