Sisters Hold Virtual Discernment Gathering; Other Sessions Planned

A virtual gathering for young adult women looking to learn more about a vocation as a Sister of Christian Charity (SCC) was held Wednesday, Oct. 27.

The topic for the evening was “Overcoming fears in discernment (part 1).” Part 2 will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 15 from 7 to 8:15 p.m.

The gathering was hosted by an online discernment group called “HEART,” which stands for “Hear. Encounter. Ask. Receive. Transform.” It was led by Sister Maria Angeline, vocation director for the Sisters of Christian Charity based in Mendham, New Jersey.

The group grew out of a previous online discernment group, “SCC Coffee Shoppe,” started by Sister Marie Jose.

Both Sister Maria Angeline (Rachael Weiss) and Sister Marie Jose (Sara de la Rosa) are from the Diocese of Allentown and graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 2007. Sister Marie Jose now ministers as a nurse at a pediatric daycare for medically frail children in Wilkes-Barre.

If you are interested in attending the December HEART gathering, email Sister Maria Angeline at vocations@scceast.org for the Zoom link.

The SCCs will also host “Come and See” discernment retreats Nov. 12-14 and Jan. 7-9.

SCC sisters serve in the Diocese of Allentown at Allentown Central Catholic High School; Holy Infancy Parish and Holy Family Senior Living, both in Bethlehem; and Good Shepherd Catholic School in Northampton.
