Wedding Anniversary Mass September 19 to Celebrate the Vocation of Marriage

During this Year of the Real Presence, when people around the Diocese are praying for more vocations to the Priesthood and religious life, it is fitting also to celebrate the vocation of marriage.

Married couples around the Diocese will be invited to renew their vows and thank God for the gift of the Sacrament of Marriage during the annual Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass at 3 p.m. September 19.

The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Alfred Schlert at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown, and also will be livestreamed on AD Today and be broadcast live on Service Electric Cable Channel 902. Advance registration is required.

Those couples celebrating 1-5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50-plus years of marriage will receive special recognition during the Mass, and will receive a certificate from Bishop Schlert.

Like the vocations to the Priesthood or to Religious Life, the Sacrament of Marriage is a response to a call from God, who says, “Follow me.” According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “the love of husband and wife becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves.”

By their marriage, the couple witnesses Christ’s spousal love for the Church. In answering God’s call to marriage, the couple promises, with the help of divine grace, a sacramental partnership of life and love.

The registration deadline for the Mass is Sept. 15. Questions? Email stewardship@allentowndiocese.org or call 1-800-831-4443.
