If you’ve ever roasted a marshmallow on a stick over a crackling campfire to make your own s’more, you know what we’re talking about – the warm stickiness, the chocolaty goodness, the good discussion of this week’s scripture passage.
The what?
A longstanding young adult bible study group in Berks County has moved outside, to the lawn next to the St. Ignatius Loyola rectory in Reading, and now the meetings feature a blazing fire pit. Members said the move was due to the pandemic restrictions on indoor gatherings, but it also might have had something to do with the s’mores.
It’s one of the many ways, around the Diocese, that parishes are working to meet the spiritual needs of the young adult community and keep them engaged in their faith.
“Our group is a fun and easy way for young adults to connect, get to know each other, and grow in holiness together,” said Father Steve Isaac, assistant pastor, who leads the discussions.
“We always have a great discussion based on the upcoming Sunday Mass readings and I feel that after every gathering we come away renewed in Christ and rejuvenated in our desire to be saints and live our Catholic faith,” he said.
“The Church is young and our gatherings give me great hope because we have some amazing young adults who are already leading and serving in the Church in awesome ways.”
Young adults (ages 18-35) are welcome to join the group at their next gathering on Thursday, Nov. 5th at 6:30 p.m., at 2810 Saint Albans Drive, Reading.
In addition to the fire pit and the s’mores, the event will be -- for those 21 and over -- BYOB. After all, the name of the group is Logos and Lagers. You can follow the group on Facebook under "Logos and Lagers: A Catholic Bible Study for Young Adults in Berks County."
