Bishop Schlert’s interview on ‘Business Matters’ set to air May 4

Bishop Alfred Schlert speaks about a wide range of topics in an upcoming half-hour television interview, scheduled to air Monday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m.

The new American Pope, the role of faith in society, the challenges and benefits of social media, and the surging interest in Catholicism among young people all are part of the discussion.

The interview will be on the long-running business and public affairs program, “Business Matters,” on WFMZ-TV Channel 69.

The interviewer and show host, Tony Iannelli, is a lifelong Catholic and a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown.

“I’ve watched your show for years, but I never thought I would be on it,” the Bishop told Iannelli at the beginning of the show, which was taped before a live audience at the WFMZ studios recently.

To wrap up the program, Bishop Schlert also spoke of his desire for increased civility in today’s fractious world. “Whatever our faith, whatever our political outlook,” he said, “if we could just concentrate on the humanity of each person we encounter, I think that would go a long way.”

Channel 69’s viewing area includes Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Carbon, and part of Schuylkill counties. It is carried on local cable systems, as well as on various streaming platforms and apps. The show will be archived on the station’s website at www.wfmz.com/business/business-matters.
