Holy Hour for Vocations with Bishop Schlert in Reading on Thursday

On Thursday August 4, the Memorial of St. John Vianney, all are invited to a special Holy Hour for Vocations with Bishop Alfred Schlert at Holy Guardian Angels Parish, Reading.

As part of the 6 p.m. event, Diocese of Allentown Seminarian Robert Rienzo will be admitted to Candidacy for Diaconate and Priesthood, one of the milestones in preparation to become a priest.

St. John Vianney is the Patron Saint of Priests, known for his great preaching and care for souls, especially hearing confessions for countless hours a day. He was born in the late 1700s in France, a time when Catholics were forced to hide from the authorities for worship and to receive the Sacraments.

Eventually becoming a priest himself, he became known as a man of strong faith who overcame many obstacles, both in his own Vocation, and in his work as a priest. In 1929, Pope Pius XI named him the patron of parish priests worldwide. In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI upgraded St. John Vianney’s title as universal patron of all priests during the Jubilee Year for Priests.

Holy Guardian Angels Parish is located at 3121 Kutztown Rd., Reading.

The event will be livestreamed here on AD Today and on the diocesan Facebook page.
